Una escena en la película que siempre hemos considerado como la piedra angular de algo, aunque hasta hace poco no teníamos ni idea de qué era ese algo. Los cuatro protangonistas atraviesan un espacio indefinido sobre una vagoneta, están viajando hacia La Zona. Ese tránsito, largo, sinuoso, rodado en sepia y estructurado sobre la música conceptual y electrónica de Arteniev es quizás el ejercicio narrativo más intenso de la historia del cine. Es en si y para el espectador, un tránsito doloroso que hay recorrer, se quiera o no, para llegar a La Zona. Nuestro proyecto es una investigación sobre ese tránsito, sobre los tortuosos caminos que llevaron a la creación en todo el mundo de Zonas, puntos de contracto, estructuras en las que, tras la definitiva intensidad del tránsito, los humanos se conectan entre si, crean. Es un recorrido por la contracultura de los 70 y 80, por el nacimiento del punk y la fantástica explosión del cine de autor. Por los cineclubs y las tiendas de discos, por los mercados en los que los soviéticos pirateban la música occidental y los festivales en los que los occidentales hacían lo mismo con las obras prohibidas de la URSS.

In 1978 Tarkovski was filming Stalker for the second time. There’s a scene in the movie that we’ve always thought of as the cornerstone of something, even though until recently we had no idea what that something was. The four protagonists cross an indefinite space on a wagon, they are traveling to La Zona. This transit, long, winding, filmed in sepia and structured on Arteniev’s conceptual and electronic music is perhaps the most intense narrative exercise in the history of cinema. It is in itself and for the viewer, a painful transit that must be traveled, whether one likes it or not, to reach La Zona. Our project is an investigation into that traffic, about the tortuous paths that led to the creation of Zones all over the world, points of contact, structures in which, after the definitive intensity of the traffic, humans connect with each other, create. It is a journey through the counterculture of the 70s and 80s, through the birth of punk and the fantastic explosion of auteur cinema. Because of the film clubs and record stores, because of the markets where the Soviets pirated Western music and the festivals where Westerners did the same with prohibited works from the USSR.
